Terms of use

These terms apply to your use of ZiMINDEX (zimindex.co.zw), including its pages, calculators, planner, assistant and data (together, “the service”). By using the service you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. What ZiMINDEX provides

ZiMINDEX publishes information about the cost of living in Zimbabwe: prices of goods, the electricity tariff, fuel prices, exchange rates, official statistics, reference rents and estimates built from them. The service is provided for general information only.

2. Not advice

Nothing on the service is financial, investment, legal, tax or other professional advice. Budgets, baskets and estimates are illustrations of typical costs, not a statement of what any particular person will pay. You are responsible for decisions you make using the service.

3. How the figures are made, and their limits

Our figures are compiled through ongoing research, data collection and analysis, drawing on published information from bodies such as ZIMSTAT, ZESA and ZERA, prices from local supermarkets and research into the rental market. Prices differ between shops and places and change over time, and some figures are estimates or reference values. We work to keep the information accurate and current, but we do not guarantee that any figure is complete, accurate or up to date. Please check prices with the seller before relying on them.

4. The assistant

Answers from Ask ZiMINDEX are generated automatically from the service’s data and may be incomplete or wrong. Treat them as a starting point, not a final answer, and do not enter personal or sensitive information into it.

5. Prices you contribute

When you report a price, you confirm that:

• it is a price you genuinely saw or paid, reported honestly;
• it contains no personal information about you or anyone else; and
• you have the right to share any link or evidence you include.

You give ZiMINDEX a free, permanent, worldwide licence to use, check, combine, publish and adapt what you submit as part of the service. We review contributions and may edit, decline or remove any of them at our discretion.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the service for anything unlawful, misleading or harmful;
• copy, scrape or extract the service’s data in bulk, by automated means or otherwise, or build a competing database or product from it, without our written permission;
• interfere with, overload or try to gain unauthorised access to the service or its systems; or
• submit false, abusive or automated contributions.

7. Our content, and sharing it

The service, including its text, design, software, compilations, datasets, baskets and calculations, belongs to ZiMINDEX and is protected by copyright and other laws. You may quote or share individual figures for personal, educational, research or news purposes, provided you credit “ZiMINDEX” and, where possible, link to the page. Any other use needs our written permission.

8. Links to other sites

The service may link to other websites. We are not responsible for their content, accuracy or practices.

9. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the service at any time, and it may sometimes be unavailable. We are not liable if that happens.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the service is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, and ZiMINDEX is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of it or reliance on it, including loss of money, profit or data. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Zimbabwe, and the courts of Zimbabwe have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
